Today wednesday 18th March at 5pm in the civic museam of Salemi, Vittorio Sgarbi the mayor of Salemi in South West Sicily with open the official exhibition of the Caraveggio Adoration of the Shephards, which is on loan from the Messina museam.

To celebrate Caravaggio and the dinner offerings to San Giuseppe le cene di San Giuseppe which takes place thursday the 19th the town of Salemi this evening will be holding a Notte Bianco, literally translated “white night” when all the shops, altar displays and exhibitions will remain open till 2am.

There is live music in the S Corleo square and exhibitions aopen all around the town.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to Salemi in Sicily this week, we will be reporting back with photos and a blog posting.

Yesterday further to the transmission on CBS about Salemi Sicily, the MIPC website servers got pretty hot, started smoking and then crashed.

Kim’s Video arrives in Salemi Sicily

Kim’s Video collection from New York has been donated and will be hosted in Salemi in Sicily.

Following a long journey across the pond in a container 55,000 videos from Kim’s Video Collection, owned by Yongman Kim from Korea, have arrived in Palermo Sicily Italy today.

This Saturday 28^th February at 11am the container will arrive in Piazza Liberta of Salemi Sicily. But a little helping hand is required from the citizens of Salemi to help Kim’s videos reach their final destination.

The streets of Salemi are historic characteristic narrow streets which a container cannot pass, so the Salemi council is asking the people of Salemi to unite in harmony in Piazza Alicia Salemi, an hour later at midday to create a human chain to move the boxes of videos from the container to their final destination in Salemi civic museum.

To celebrate the arrival of Kim’s video in Salemi Saturday evening at 8pm in the arab-roman castle, in Piazza Alicia, the official inauguration takes place, with aperitifs, music and when some of Kim’s finest videos will be projected.

Salemi Film – Salemi Music – Salemi Arts festival Sicily

Salemi Sicily continues to attract global attention in the film music and arts world. Following the recent announcement that Kims video from new york will relocate to Salemi, there has been much interest in the cultural agenda here in Salemi.

The Salemi council is looking for participants for a series of cultural events, including the Salemi film festival, Salemi music festival and the Salemi arts festival.

On average, how large are these homes – how many square metres each?

They are currently ruins and need completly rebuilding, average size will be from 70 -100sqm

Is it possible to choose property with the best view, easiest street access, least damage or other attributes?

Allocation details have not yet been released, there are rumours of auctions, preference to cultural/artistic applicants and people who will live here…the objective is to have a buzzing community not a ghost town.

Can the purchaser get a written guarantee of the “thousand euros per square metre” repair pricing?

Building contracts come with price guarantees. The final price is to be determined obviously.

What rules are in place to prevent price gouging from local builders?

The council may appoint large contractors on fixed prices.

What, if any, is the penalty for failure to complete restoration within the two-year limit?

This is more a commitment to complete rather than a deadline. The council don’t want people sitting on land and not completing the restoration.

Is it possible for me, a U.S. citizen, to fully own such a house?

Yes US citizens can fully owna house in Italy. No problem.

If so, how does ownership affect my visa and/or immigration status in Sicily?
